Starting with Maine, man!
Salutations Chooms!
Man, am I excited to finally be able to talk about the characters who will be in Cyberpunk Edgerunners: Combat Zone. I’m going to start by highlighting specific Arasaka and Edgerunner characters in their basic (non-veteran) form. We’ll go over what makes the model useful and how to leverage the unique weapons and abilities with each character.
Today, we’re starting with the Leader of the Edgerunner’s faction, Maine. In Combat Zone, the term Edgerunner refers to a faction with lots of Mercs, so when bringing Maine’s Edgerunners crew to our [RE]action system, we knew they’d be a natural fit. This also makes the team available to other factions. The exception is Maine. He’s a Leader model, so if he’s on the team, he’s running the team, and that makes the team an Edgerunners faction.
Let’s chat about stats. Maine starts off with three action tokens, a green and two yellow. That’s a strong foundation common among the most effective [RE]action characters. Additionally, he’s got a 3 Melee, 1 Ranged, and 2 Influence skills. This makes him one of the most powerful melee combatants you can get. If that’s not enough for you, he only gets stronger if you give him some melee gear! All of this costs 25€$, which is a good portion of any team’s budget, but Maine is worth it as a strong foundation.
Now let’s talk about the weapon at the bottom of his card (don’t worry, I’ll get to his special in a moment). The Projectile Launch System is a heavy-hitting Torrent weapon. That means it fires in a YELLOW limiter line and hits everything in its path. Coupled with Deadly Crits, Maine has the potential to take out several rivals at once with good positioning. And that’s before he gets into a brawl.
Finally, Maine’s got End Of The Line as his special ability. When he gets taken out, if he gets taken out, the rest of your team is going to refresh their spent action tokens. The loyalty Maine instills in his crew is hard-earned, and they’ll push themselves to the limit to achieve their objective. This effect can be tough to maximize, but with experience, you’ll know when to risk pushing Maine forward into the fray.
All this, and he’s got a fun model to paint too, if you decide to expand from the StandUpz™!
And don’t worry… I’ll get to Mr. Martinez soon enough. Well… a David.
