When designing a Character card, it’s frequently most important to focus on the Character’s equipment to bring their tactics to the tabletop. David’s Sandevistan is a good example of this. But sometimes, a Character comes along whose personality and narrative take the lead. Such is the case with Rebecca, who is a whirlwind of destruction.

Mechanically speaking, she’s extremely dangerous with a gun for 20€$. She’s a Merc and Specialist with 3 Ranged, 1 Reflexes, and 1 Influence. Give her a Smartlnk for +1 Ranged skill, and she’s one of the deadliest shots on the tabletop. By default, she’s got a GREEN and two YELLOW actions, so even with a basic ranged attack, she’s got plenty of chances to wound.

She’s got two special abilities that make her even more dangerous. The first is Vengeful. When Rebecca makes a [RE]action attack, it gains Deadly Crits. And since she just took a wound, she’s probably got a RED action token to retaliate. Because the greatest value on our dice is a Crit symbol, the RED d6 has the highest chance to Crit! Give Rebecca an Assault Rifle or another Rapid weapon, and she can deal a lot of damage to any gonk who wants to start a fight.

Her other special ability is Unpredictable. Here’s that high Crit’ing RED die again. Rebecca may always choose to roll a RED die when making an attack. Any weapon with Crit effects suddenly gets more reliable in her hands. She can also use this ability when [RE]acting to trigger those Deadly Crits more often.

One of the tactical decisions players have to consider in Combat Zone is when to Activate each character. Frequently, you want to activate Netrunners early so that their debuff effects last as long as possible (many Programs reset when you Inspire). Another typical candidate to act early with, are dangerous characters with strong attacks. Rebecca, however, benefits from waiting because she’s such a strong [RE]actor. This helps her fill a unique niche as a late-activating powerhouse.

Well, that just about wraps it up. I don’t expect anyone to just like, smash down and make me do another one of these…
