Powerful crime bosses are taking over the streets with a mob of Maliwan service bots. Freedom depends on you to serve up some hot steaming justice beatings and remind these lawbreakers that weāre bringing back truth, justice, and EXPLOSIONS!
This campaign expansion is chocked full of gritty crime scenarios, mind melting mysteries, and dramatic shootouts. Maliwan Crime Busters features four new Vault Hunters, a paddy wagon full of Maliwan bots, and powerful crime bosses. It also introduces an all new crime-solving gameplay mechanic with Crime cards. Let's take a look at how it works.
Solving Mysteries
At the start of a scenario, the Crime card is placed with its mystery side showing face up. Each mystery lists a unique condition Vault Hunters must fulfill to solve it.Ā
When Vault Hunters solve a mystery, the card is flipped over to its clue side and placed above the Announcement queue.
Vault Hunters can use the ability on the clue, then the clue is removed from play and placed into the Case File envelope.
Each clue in the Case File can be used during the next scenario. The more mysteries Vault Hunters solve, the more abilities they can use during future scenarios. When Vault Hunters gain enough clues, they can trade them in to gain a level!
Crime Bosses
Solving crimes doesn't stop there. Each scenario features a Crime Boss that Vault Hunters must take out to win, and the mysteries you've solved (or not solved) are key to victory or defeat!
The bottom of each mystery lists a Boss Buff ability that takes effect when the Crime Boss is in play. (The ability is ignored while the Crime Boss is not in play.)
If the Vault Hunters are able to solve the mystery, the Crime Card is flipped over to the clue side removing the Boss Buff and making you far more likely to bring the boss to justice.
New Vault Hunters Enter the Arena
But who exactly is solving these murderous mysteries and cunning crimes? The Arena of Badassery accepts all challengers and Mister Torgue is happy to forfeit anyone's legal rights if it means more explosive entertainment! Let's look at this expansions leaderboard:
Rhys
Rhys is a slick, tech-savvy executive with dreams of power. Armed with a cybernetic eye, a sharp tongue, and a love for high-tech gadgets, Rhys blends brains, ambition, and charismaāusually with dramatic flair and questionable decisions.
Rhysās main ability,Ā Call Yvette, lets him drop an extra Loot token every time he takes out an enemy. To get the most out of this, itās usually best for Rhys to go last in the turn order. Other players can weaken enemies first, leaving them with just one hit point to take out. Give Rhys a grenade or rocket launcher, and he can wipe out groups of weak enemies in one big explosion, leaving a pile of loot behind.
Echo EyeĀ lets Rhys roll one extra die of the same color and choose the better result. This boosts his chances of success and helps avoid Fumbles. Because itās not a reroll, it works well with abilities like Accurate. It also makes elemental weapons stronger, since Rhys gets twice the chance to apply effects like Incendiary and Corrosive. He can even use Echo Eye for things like the Spawn Table or Cleanup Roll, making it useful beyond just combat.
Fiona
Fiona is a quick-draw gunslinger and con artist. Sharp, clever, and always looking for the next big score, she uses wit and charm to get out of trouble, and into even more of it. With a cool head and a quick hand, Fiona proves that brains can be just as dangerous as bullets.
Fired UpĀ lets her always use green Action tokens when attacking with a Pistol. This means sheās just as dangerous when wounded as when sheās fully healed. Itās especially helpful during a Fight For Your Life, when you have only red Action tokens left but desperately need to take out an enemy.
FionaāsĀ Wheel and DealĀ ability lets you freely swap Loot tokens with another Vault Hunter in the same zone. You can give or take any kind of Loot, making it useful for teamwork, or for clever tricks depending on your playstyle.
In addition to Fionaās awesome abilities, sheās got the lovableĀ GortysĀ by her side! This pint-sized helper scoots around the Arena collecting Loot tokens, giving Fionaās Wheel and Deal ability even more versatility. Teaming up with Rhys, who drops extra Loot from defeated enemies, turns Gortys into a loot-grabbing legend!
Marcus
Marcus Kincaid is the fast-talking arms dealer and owner of Marcus Munitions. Heās always ready to sell you weapons with a side of sarcasm and shady business ethics. Whether you need bullets, bombs, or bad advice, Marcus delivers with flair, greed, and a booming voice that makes every deal sound like a death sentence wrapped in a discount.
HisĀ Supply and DemandĀ ability allows all Vault Hunters to refresh gear at the end of the round. While this is useful for the entire team, itās perfect for keeping explosive experts like Tiny Tina and Mr. Torgue loaded and lethal.Ā
Price of LifeĀ offers a strategic backup plan so Vault Hunters can use the resale value of cards and tokens to respawn. While this ability should be used sparingly, it can be the difference between ending a scenario with victory or defeat. Being able to spend extra Loot tokens and gear that you donāt really need can keep extra starting cash to buy much needed gear at the end of the game. That means you can push harder in tough scenarios without fear of total defeat.
Marcus brings powerful team support and clever resource management to the fight. If you like playing smart, supporting your team, and squeezing every last credit out of your inventory, Marcus is your guy!
BALEX
BALEX is a tough-talking navigation AI trapped in a pink plushie Tetrabear. Despite his cuddly appearance, heās all attitude and aggression, ready to hack, fight, and sass his way through any mission.
BearrageĀ lets him turn defense into offense. After BALEX successfully defends against an enemy attack, he can exhaust the Action token to smack āem right back with an auto-wound! Itās especially nasty against enemies with weak attacks but tough Defense value.Ā
His other ability,Ā Navigated, Bitches!, allows him to draw three Fan Favorite cards at the start of the game and keep one. You can hand-pick the perfect effect to steal the Spotlight, so you can keep those Bearrage counterattacks coming strong and steady! BALEXās skill tree has some phenomenal healing abilities and other defense buffs to survive the barrage of enemy attacks.Ā
BALEX shines in the Spotlight and punishes anyone who dares to take a swing at him. Cute on the outside, deadly on the inside!
